In the Absence

|sumsion| posted a photo: I am attempting, again, to find color in the absence of color. There was little. As I walked the mile or two over the frozen bay, I felt many times that the earth was going to open up and suck me in. It was a fairly uneasy feeling to know that I was walking on the icing of a huge cake that may or may not have been underneath. I survived, so apparently the cake was frozen. At least there were candles sticking out here and there. large — On a separate note, the air has cleared in Utah. I forget that skies can be blue, that there can be anything beyond the 1/2 mile visibility, and that lungs like clear air. The weather has been beautiful, the clouds have been incredible. Time to get out again.

Hugh Jackman attack

Apparently, Hugh Jackman is the best thing that ever happened to my blog. Here, let me remind you. I hear that Nichole Kidman was disapointed in Australia and, in fact, wished that she a Hot Hugh had never filmed the movie. I’m sorry, but has she seen this picture? Can anyone honestly tell me (with the exception of my darling husband) that the world is not a better place because of it? (Jason has not seen this movie yet. For some reason, he keeps dragging his feet about it.) Here’s the thing about Hugh Jackman. According to my blog, at least fifty fans google this man every single day. How do I know this? Because they all land on this post . Amazing that some rinky dink post I wrote once that was nothing more than an excuse to avoid cleaning the toilets has become my shining star of journalism. For the record, my husband seems to tolerate Hugh’s place in my life. This is probably due to the fact that Jason is the most non-jealous individual that has ever walked the face of the earth. I think he would farm me out on date night during football season without blinking an eye. In fact, we went out on Friday and I saw an old man in the restaurant sitting with a much younger woman. It gave me an idea for some quick cash. “Honey,” I say, “I should hire myself out as a dinner companion for sad old men. Just think of how much fun I could be!” He looked at me for a moment, shrugged, and said, “As long as you don’t kiss any of them, it’s fine with me.” Right. Kissing strange men for money. And right then and there I realized that prostitution is probably a dangerous and slippery slope. “What? You thought you were paying me for that ? But I’m just here for stimulating conversation!” Let’s just say I’ll not be persuing a career in escort services.

Freedom Restrained

|sumsion| posted a photo: These things were not meant to be grounded. The minute this one touched the earth it seemed to want to leave it again. It resisted as long as it could, and then finally gave in. I kind of felt bad for it. I’m sure that I could write something cheesy here comparing this balloon to our lives, but I’m not going to. :)

Perseid Meteor Shower

|sumsion| posted a photo: This must be viewed large on black . If you missed the meteor shower last night, I have you covered. The time-lapse video will be uploaded a bit later. Most meteor shower particles are thought to be debris left behind by comets. The Perseids’ parent comet, Swift-Tuttle, was last closest to the Earth late in the last century and will not return until early next century. This shower is called the Perseids because the meteors appear to radiate from the constellation Perseus. This meteor shower is one of the fastest moving, with meteors ripping into the atmosphere at 60 kilometers per second. (In other words, really fast.) These particles were cast off by the shower’s parent comet nearly 400 years ago in 1610. Taken between 12:40 AM until 3:00 AM Mountain Time on August 12, 2009. This was my first ever attempt at star trails, so be kind. :) This image consists of approximately 300 20-second exposures, one second apart. Nothing has been done to this shot, other than combining the images together.

The Lines of My Earth

|sumsion| posted a photo: Those of you who live in Northern Utah are well aware of the crazy wind storms that we had last week. I got caught in one of them just as I was helping to take a load of stuff to the local landfill. I can tell you that the landfill is not the place you want to be when 50-80 mph micro-bursts hit, followed by large, pelting rain drops/shards. Fast-moving garbage just isn’t my thing. Anyway, these winds created some really amazing patterns near the Great Salt Lake water. The ripples were deeply cut and I could tell that tons of mud and sand had been thrown around during the storms. Closer to shore the wind had blown a thin layer of salt over the sand, which had crystallized. As I was walking the mile or so out to the water, through the salt, I kept looking back thinking that somebody was following me. I figured out that my feet were kicking up the salt crystals and they were shattering behind me as I walked. No matter how many times I told myself that this, in fact, what was happening, I still kept looking back. I think I freaked myself out a bit, which probably isn’t too difficult to do when I’m by myself in the middle of nowhere. I survived, and whoever was following me did a great job of hiding. This is an HDR vertorama at White Rock Bay, looking south. Yes, I went back to White Rock Bay. I couldn’t stay away. Find me on the map. Click here for more White Rock Bay.

On Earth

|sumsion| (I think I may be gone for a bit) posted a photo: This will be the last of my post posts, at least until I get back to White Rock Bay. I have some new shots from the last few days at Bear Lake that I’ll be posting this week. I ended up with a few that I like. This seemed like a peaceful Sunday morning shot, so here you go. I hope your Sunday is going well, wherever you happen to be. This is a three exposure HDR. You are looking west at sunset toward Stansbury Island on The Great Salt Lake. Lots of sand, lots of mud, lots of vignette, not a person around. Here’s a bit of The Sundays for your Sunday. www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyAQ3z6xMxM View Larger
