Twin ghosts

p i c a posted a photo: Long time since I posted a night photo :-) This is the very distant view of a closed-down nuclear power plant, seen from across some 30 kilometers of water. Taken about an hour after sunset. And… incidentally, it turns out that on the same day (almost on the hour!) my Flickr friend Joel Tjintjelaar was also out shooting a power station at a distance, only a bit further down in Europe. Here’s his very cool take , go check it out!

World Trade Center- November 1999

kay’s kamera posted a photo: Eight years ago today we got a very early morning call from our daughter. I hate early morning calls, they always seem to be bad news. My husband was downstairs reading the paper and picked up our daughters call, and question about her brother, and our son. “Daddy… where does Ryan work?” “He moved to a new building down near Wall Street…Why?” “Turn on the TV.” I came downstairs to witness the second plane crashing into the World Trade Center building…I felt sick. In emergencies I seem to become strangely calm in order to get things done. “Okay, lets call his office.” I tell my husband. He dials the number…It’s busy I watch as a frighteningly huge wave of smoke, bigger than anything I’ve ever seen come rolling up the streets of lower Manhattan. I hear an announcer say that a young man is attempting to go into the buildings to help people. Tears come to my eyes immediately feeling that that would be something our son would do without thinking twice. “Call their house in Connecticut” Thinking our daughter-in-law might know something. the phone rings… Our son answers! My husband hands me the phone, he is so chocked up he can’t speak. “Ryan…You’re home” “I took the day off” A lot more was said but when we finished talking to him we decided to drive back to New York to give him a hug. We threw an ice chest, cameras, tripod, film (no digital at this date) random clothes and some maps into my Jeep and prepared to make a cross country trip… We had talked about doing this…Sometime… sometime was now. Defending What Is Mine

Anna Gay posted a photo: I have decided to make my entire stream private so that only the people I have listed as contacts can view my stream. A lot of careful thought went into this. Most of my contacts know what is going on with me personally and so does my family. I have nothing to hide. However, leaving slanderous comments on my stream is not only against Flickr policy, but it is against the law to slander someone on the internet as I am being slandered. I have documented every comment that has been left on my stream since Monday. I am not taking this lightly, and neither are my friends and family. I know that I have their love and support not matter what, but I am starting to feel as though my personal safety is at risk. I almost deleted my stream entirely, but then I thought, you know…I’ve *worked* to build my work on here, and I’m not going to delete it because some people hiding behind the internet want to harm me. As one of my contacts put it: Defy those who try to deny you that which over time and effort as well as boundless imagination has rightfully become yours. If you want to follow my stream, I will mark you as a contact, but you must send me a Flickrmail.
