The Lake Is Alive | So Are the Bugs

The Lake Is Alive | So Are the Bugs

I actually went out tonight. With my camera. I’m happy.

I got my D90 last October. By that time of year The Great Salt Lake has started to pack things in for the winter. It’s been a couple of months, at least, since I’ve been to Antelope Island. So…I’ve basically only photographed the lake, so far, during cold months. During the dormant months.

Wow. Things have changed. It’s not winter any more. What used to be a completely barren wasteland has turned into green. To tell you the truth, I had no idea that it would look like this. I mean, what grows in salt? I expected, well, salt. Let me give you a visual. This shot was taken in roughly the same area as what you’re looking at above. Wow again.

There was another thing that I wasn’t expecting at the lake tonight. Just another thing I didn’t consider. BUGS. Billions of them. I think they’ve got their own stimulus plan going on. I have a mental note to take repellent next time.

Anyway, as you may have guessed, I’m really thrilled to have two legs again. It’s not 100%, but that’s ok. It’s usable. No excuses now.

This consists of two shots. One on top, one on bottom, stitched in Photoshop PS3. This was taken after sunset, looking southwest from the Antelope Island causeway.
